British Prime Minister David Cameron has sent a special invitation to Prime Minister Erdoğan to attend the summer games in London.

He said, in the invitation he extended at the beginning of June, that he would be honoured to host Erdoğan at the Olympic Games in which Turkey was going to participate with a record high number of sports people. He said further that he would please to watch together with Erdoğan a competition where Turkish contestants stood a high chance of receiving medals.

Upon that invitation sent to a prime minister of the Republic of Turkey for the first time ever in history, Erdoğan took stock of the invitation.

Given the fact that Britain attaches great political importance to Erdoğan's participation, that Turkey volenteers to host the 2020 Olympic Games and that his participation is bound to boost the Turkish team's morale, Erdoğan decided to attend the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games in London on July 27.

Erdoğan and British Prime Minister Cameron will watch together either Rıza Kayaalp , the European and World Champion, or a game of the Turkish women's basketball team.

About 10 thousand contestants from 5 continents will compete from July 27 until August 12.

Turkish contestants who participated in the Beijing Olympic Games 2008 as a 68 strong team have bought 112 tickets for the London Summer Games.

Moreover, Turkey will also be represented in the team games after an interval of 50 years.

The Turkish women's basketball and volleyball teams will compete for a gold medal each.
