BLACK SEA ECONOMIC COOPERATION ORGANIZATION SUMMIT HELD IN ISTANBUL

The Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization Summit was hosted in İstanbul by President Abdullah Gül on the 20th anniversary of its foundation.

In his opening speech at the summit, President Gül made Turkey's targets regarding term presidency public.

"Our country that will take over the term presidency as of July 1, will focus its efforts on the organization becoming more functional. It will materialize concrete projects that will embrace all people living in the region".

President Gül made a call for issues in the region being resolved within the organization.

Other leaders who spoke at the summit stressed gradually increasing importance of the Black Sea basin, also drawing attention to the fact that energy would be of vital significance in terms of the future of the region.

At the summit a document titled "Economic Agenda" consisting of targets for the next 10 years was signed by member countries.

Meanwhile, President Abdullah Gül held bilateral talks with leaders who attended the summit.

President Gül met separately with Albanian Prime Minister and Azerbaijani, Serbian and Georgian Presidents.
