KILIÇDAROĞLU ELECTED DEPUTY CHAIRMAN OF SOCIALIST INTERNATIONAL

Republican People Party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has been elected deputy chairman of Socialist International at its congress in Cape Town in South Africa.

In a speech he delievered at the congress, Kılıçdaroğlu said the number of the unemployed exceeded the populations of 163 countries and neo-liberal policies could not be sustained any more.

Global crisis was again the top item on the agenda of the 24th Congress of Socialist International.

In the opening speech he made of the congress, Socialist International leader Yorgo Papandreu said the cause of the economic crisis was not the peoples and it was the globalization which created the crisis.

Kılıçdaroğlu placed emphasis on unemployment in the world and stressed in his speech that things would be worse if reforms conducive to making a transition to production economy were not carried out and international institutions were not re-structured.

Kılıçdaroğlu also said that his Republican People's Party would be honoured to have the next meeting held in Turkey.

At the end of the election, Kılıçdaroğlu was voted to the post of deputy chairman.
