At his talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Annan made a call for dialogue with the opposition. However, Assad did not reply to this call and operations targeting civilians escalated. Gunshots did not end in Idlib.
Annan arrives in Ankara today. Annan's talks with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will also be attended by Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. Davutoğlu is expected to give a working dinner in honor of Annan.
The main item on Annan's Ankara contacts will be diplomatic efforts for Syria as well as humanitarian aid being sent to Syrian people as soon as possible.
