TRT - News
Objectives
TRT News aims to inform people continuously, adequately
and truthfully about current economic, scientific, technological, as well as
culture & arts events and activities in Turkey and around the world at an
instantaneous pace. In line with the tenets of pluralist democracy and
supremacy of law, TRT News aims to convey the truth, emphasize plurivocality of
a duly democratic society, and help a public opinion to take shape freely and
healthily. TRT News aims to enlighten people on current, if controversial,
issues through letting different opinions have their say and by encouraging
discussion.
Principles
- Conveying news and events fast and right. Consulting and inviting experts
on domestic and international developments when necessary.
Assuring that comprehensive space is provided for the
expression of opinions which pay due respect to the modern image of Turkish
Republic as a democratic, secular, non-discriminative Social Welfare State
based on the supremacy of law, and a State that functions through a firm
understanding of justice and national solidarity.
- Reporting news from the entire world as well as Turkey, Turkic States and
societies through impartial and modern broadcasting. Preparing news programs
with in-depth coverage and avoiding those that could lead to misunderstandings
and provocation in the society at large.
- Preparing news and programs for TV and Radio, if separately when
necessary, within the existing legal framework and through an unbiased regard
to constitutional institutions and establishments according to the principles
of impartiality, accuracy and instantaneity.
- Providing sufficient space for the programs through which the
Government’s political, economic, and societal decisions, actions and deeds
are informatively presented and duly accompanied by freely expressed public
assessment and response to them.
- Improving relations with international news agencies, and crosschecking
the accuracy of foreign-bound news with domestic agencies and TRT resources.
Reporting news not as they come from agencies, but only after an evaluation
based on modern news-gathering principles.
- Reporting news of nationwide and/or worldwide significance in an unbiased
manner, giving due consideration to the interests of the modern individual and
society.
- Using all technical resources available competently and suitably. In all
news bulletins and news programs, preferring live broadcasts to pre-recorded
or archival material. While using archival material, placing the sign
“archive” on the screen. Bringing forth the visual arts aspects of TV
broadcasting, which includes 3-D effects, graphics, animations etc? Avoiding
the unrelated footage to not divagate from the context.
Including comments and evaluations in news bulletins.
Avoiding political comments and ideological evaluations that could harm
present and future international relations, and paying utmost attention to
expressing the source of the news and comments.
- Shaping locally based news with limited audience of interest (ceremonies,
inaugurations vb.) in a way that would not contradict broadcasting principles
aligned with the interests of the modern individual and society. Avoiding news
reporting that abides stringently by the hierarchy of protocol.
- Remaining committed to impartial, accurate and current news in dealing
with political issues. Preserving the essence and goal of the statements by
political figures and parties when summarizing announcements made by them.
- Not making unilateral and biased news. Not serving the benefits of a
political party, group, belief or opinion. Not declaring anyone guilty, until
“guiltiness” is verified by court decisions.
- Letting people’s opinions take shape and concretize in relation to
political, economic and social deeds and actions by the Government, and duly
informing the society in its collectivity about people’s actual responses
through interviews, forums and panel discussions.
